Growing Your Own Food for Dallas Apartment Dwellers

Apartment living doesn't mean you have to sacrifice growing your own food. You can use the space you have to create a thriving container garden on your patio or balcony. It'll liven up your outdoor area with lush greenery while giving you a way to "shop" without actually going to the store.

Solve the problem of watering by using self-watering containers, or by recycling used soda bottles to create ingenious hanging self-watering gardens. If your balcony doesn't get much sunlight, try growing spinach, broccoli, lettuce, and other cool weather crops like lavender and other herbs. A sunny balcony calls for tomatoes, peppers and strawberries and even garlic.

Invite your neighbors to share in your bounty, and you might even inspire a few to start their own container garden!
